Identity
Being identified as a Japanese woman gave me so much shame. People call us “subservient” as if we are a punching bag. “Stupid,” “naive,” “meek,” “timid,” “loose,” are other descriptions I heard used about us. We are condescended to speak up and silenced for speaking up.
All these years, I worked hard not to become one of the Japanese women. “I am not like one” was the lie I told myself, the root of my loneliness.
